“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
(Romans 8:26)

What does a person do when they know they should pray, but they are unsure what to pray for? How does a Christian handle the unknown of prayer?

While you might not feel the unknown words right now, I would imagine there are time you have felt like you needed to pray, but you were unsure what to petition God to do. Many have been through this and I would like many will go through this. You are not alone.

There were those in the Bible who struggled with prayer. Paul shares thoughts regarding our communication with God in his letter to the Roman church.

Paul’s purpose in the Romain letter is to encourage them and motivate them to keep fighting the good fight of faith. They had a faith known throughout the world. (Romans 1.8) Paul desire that all men know the gospel and the brethren in Rome continue to shine as lights.

Paul also talks about our communication with God in Romans 8,

“Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”  (Romans 8:26)

As Christians, we have the Spirit working for us when we do not know how to pray as we ought too. God has given us every opportunity to be heard by Him. He will answer our prayers, but we must reach out to Him.

Have you prayed today?

Specifically, have you prayed regarding the election today?

There might have been times where you did not know what to pray for regarding the election. There have most likely been some confusing times as the candidates battle for your vote. Those battles can make it confusing because every ad may say something different.

We need the Spirit to intercede sometimes.

Are you praying?

Father God, we praise your most Holy Name. It is humbleness we bow before You, thanking You for Your Spirit that intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Father, we can become confused in this troubled world. When we become confused, we ask for Your wisdom and Your grace.

Father, please help us see the work You are doing in our lives through Your providential care. Help us open our eyes and see You more clearly. Help us appreciate and enjoy the moments You have provided.

Father, we ask this prayer in Jesus’ name…Amen!
