Less Than Five Days! Keep Praying!

Days Until the Election

“Be still, and know that I am God. It will exalt me among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth!”
(Psalms 46:10)

Today is the day.

Today is Election Day.

Today votes will be cast, and hopefully, by this evening, a winner will be named.

Through all this election season, people have been promoting the candidate they feel is best to lead our country. During all the campaigning, there have been feelings hurt, friendships lost, families divided and many unnecessary comments. In this process, the American people will practice an act of freedom our country has enjoyed since its beginning.

At the end of the day, it is not who you voted for, or who you campaigned for; it is about who you will respect. It is about who you will respect as a servant of God. Remember the words of Romans 13.1-7,

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

Therefore whoever resists the authorities resists what God has appointed, and those who resist will incur judgment. For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad.

Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, for he is God’s servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God’s wrath on the wrongdoer.

Therefore one must be in subjection, not only to avoid God’s wrath but also for the sake of conscience. For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed.

(Romans 13:1-7; Emphasis mine)

No matter who wins today, we must remember the authorities are servants of God. We should honor those to whom honor is due.

Christians must remember the God’s word was here long before our nation and God’s word will prevail longer after our nation is past. God’s words are eternal, this world is temporary.

Today, let us be civil toward each other. May we remember that there are battles bigger than an election and its results. The battle against Satan is much larger than what we think.

Remember, both candidates for president are precious in the sight of God. Remember, God wants them to be saved just like you.

God is present today.

Remember, God has this in His control. We must do our part, but respect His will for our lives.

Father, today is the day for which we have been praying. We need You today to shine through Your people.  May Your people be the lights shining in the world. Throughout the day, as people choose their candidate, may each one pray about their choice, their vote, and the results.

As each voting person heads to the polling places, may they remember to pray before they cast their ballot. May each person depend upon you before they cast their vote for the candidates. May each person use the words You have given us to guide their choice today.

Father, we know we are not voting for perfect people. Help us be patient with them. Help us continue to pray for them long after today’s events are accomplished. May we pray for the one who is chosen to lead our country.

Father, may we pray for all those chosen on this day. May they lead our country as Your servants. May they remember You are the True and Eternal God. We pray they will turn to Your Word and let it be the guiding document in their life.

Father, for our country, no matter what the results, we pray for unity. May the citizens of the United States bond together despite the winning candidate or party. We pray this unity will increase as the time grows.

Father, for our country, we pray for peace. So much has happened this year. The turmoil has been great. Allow Your peace to come upon us. May no violence take place, but may everyone love his neighbor. May Your people seek to outdo one another in love.

Father, for our country, we pray that each one will turn to You. We pray that each citizen will realize Your blessings upon our country, our leaders, and our families. Allow each person the time to see Your blessings and give them the open hearts to accept Your word.

Father, we know the next few days will be hard. Emotions will be great. Some will be happy; others will be disappointed. We pray each one will use their emotions to look to You. May our actions not be governed by our emotions, but by Your truth.

Father, we need You. We need Your peace, Your mercy, Your love and Your constant reminders that You are in control.

Father, be with us. May we serve You confidently and graciously. May our lights shine so others can see You.

Father, we love You. Thank You for loving us.

In Your Son’s name we ask these things, amen.
