Are you praying for the election?
Days Until the Election
Today is Friday.
The end of the week is here and many look forward to a day of rest tomorrow. Some will catch up on chores, others will spend time with family. Still others may have to work and get ready for the week ahead.
Let your mind rest this weekend, but remember to pray.
In the coming election, there are 30+ seats available across our government and more considering their staff and support teams. This might be one reason the election cycle is more chaotic this year than normal.
We need to be on our guard as we pray. It is crucial that we continue to remember that God is in control. His will is greater than ours. His thoughts are greater than our thoughts. His ways are greater than our ways.
As you wind down from the week’s activities, I encourage you to refresh your life through prayer. In the gospel accounts, we read of Jesus taking a break and removing Himself from the world’s happenings and going to spend time in prayer.
Maybe this weekend, you can refresh yourself by pulling your mind away from the world and focusing some time each day on prayer.
Some simple steps you can take:
Set reminders on your phone to pray. Place reminders through the day for a time to pray. Maybe your time is breakfast, lunch and dinner. You might pray more with a simple reminder.
Keep a list. Many people have found that a small list in their pocket reminds them what to pray for each day. This gives you something to go by, but it also lets you continually write things down throughout the day to pray about during your prayer time.
Establish a prayer time. Just as setting a reminder may help establish a few times each day when you will talk to God about your thoughts, wants, needs and desires. Make this your prayer time and do your best not to have it interrupted.
Sometimes it is the simple steps that assist us in creating a great prayer life.
“Father, today we pray for your peace as the election day is drawing closer. With many seats up for a vote, we pray that You will always be in control and help us remember. Father, help us have a spirit of peace as we go from day to day. Allow us to be refreshed, knowing that Your will is greater than ours, but You always know what is best. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
