“I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling…” (1 Timothy 2:8)

Are you praying more today than you did yesterday?

Last night’s debates are a reminder that, no matter which side of the aisle you are on, you need to be praying.

As the studies are showing, last night’s debate did not do much to persuade voters. However, amid the debate comments across social media, it is clear that more people believe they will pray more now than before.

Sometimes external circumstances bring our prayer life into a greater focus.

When you pray, are you praying for the candidate or about the candidate? It is a valid question to ask.

Consider for a moment words from Billy Graham after he prayed at Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1992. After he prayed, Billy Graham received criticism because of the event. Mr. Graham responded by saying,

“I’m praying for the President, not for a party or platform. We’re told to pray for the people in authority. Jacob prayed for Pharoah, Daniel prayed for Nebuchadnezzar.” (Facts &Trends, July/Aug. 1994, P. 10)

Have you been praying lately?

Allow time today to pray for our nation and our leaders.

As you pray, teach your children to pray.

“Father, with humbleness we ask Your peace, power and providence to be upon our country. Within a few weeks, the elections will take place and we need You. We need Your reassurance that everything will work out to Your will. Allow us, as your people, to accept the outcomes no matter the results. May we realize Your blessings will always be on us because of Your mercy and Your grace. Help us, Lord. Surround us with Your Almighty hands. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
